Opening of the new "HonigHelden!" therapy room by Stefanie Graf and school senator Ties Rabe in the primary school Osterbrook
In the last eight months, the CfT project HonigHelden! has been treating traumatized refugee children in the primary school Osterbrook (Hamm Süd).
The HonigHelden! project offers psychosocial groups and individual therapy and provides advice and psychosocial assistance to the children and their families. In addition, the teaching staff of the school receives supervision and training on how to recognize trauma-symptoms in children and give them more support.
Stefanie Graf and the school senator Ties Rabe have jointly inaugurated a new therapy room. The room includes a tree house and is decorated in natural tones. A canopy gives warm light. "Within one year a lot has changed here, "explains Graf. "Our therapeutic room has a warm atmosphere that enables children to open up."
The room was planned and designed by the architectural office LOTOS. "Interior Design is a life-style. The spaces we design also shape our personalities", says Sascha Powonska, who works by architectural psychological standards. Together with Robert Nader, LOTOS planned the whole room for free and their partners cooperated with reduced prices to support our cause. In addition, the organization Deutsche Lions supports the project and the therapeutic work with children and their parents.
At the opening, the syrian family Al Hamo visited the new room with their two daughters (7 & 10 years old). Father Nashwan fled from Damascus in September 2015. "The individual care has helped our daughters very much," says Nashwan Al Hamo: "Their anxiety has disappeared and their characters have become much stronger."
