CHILDREN FOR TOMORROW wins first prize at the Hamburg Foundation Awards!
Our HoneyHeroes! project received the top prize at yesterday evening’s Hamburg Foundation Awards, which were held at the town hall! The foundation award comes with prize money of 10,000 euros. First Mayor Dr Peter Tschentscher and Justice Senator Anna Gallina praised the innovative idea behind the project:
Dr Peter Tschentscher, First Mayor: ‘The CHILDREN FOR TOMORROW foundation helps refugee children of primary school age to process traumatic experiences. It gives them the support they need to get their new life off to a good start. I wish to express my sincere thanks for this important commitment and I congratulate CHILDREN FOR TOMORROW on winning the 2021 Hamburg Foundation Award.’
Anna Gallina, Justice Senator: ‘Children and young people have had a particularly tough time during the coronavirus pandemic. For this reason, the Board of Trustees selected three foundations this year, each with a different approach to helping the younger and youngest among us. CHILDREN FOR TOMORROW looks after the most vulnerable members of our society: traumatised children who would otherwise have no access to help. This is a brilliant example of practical and lasting voluntary work.’
Our project provides psychotherapy in schools for primary school children who have been traumatised by the experience of war and having to flee. By offering help in the school setting, children can be reached who would otherwise fall through the care net. Parents and teachers are also involved in the therapy process. We want to expand the project in the future and establish cooperation partnerships with psychotherapists who have practices located across the city.
