A typical story
‘When we arrived here in Hamburg, even though we were safe, the fear remained. Not understanding German and being a stranger made me all the more fearful. My child sensed my fear, he cried a lot and sometimes hit me. A teacher said that I could go to HoneyHeroes! for help. That is when I went to them with my child.
At first, I didn’t understand what it is they do. But they said that they can help my son to stop crying and hitting out. They explained that he is trying to be strong for me. That Omar feels responsible and wants to protect me. That is why he is overwhelmed and not sleeping well. I now understood this. They showed me how to calm him down and that is good.
Now I want to be strong for my child again. My child should be allowed to be a child. Through HoneyHeroes! I found ways of helping myself as a mother and discovered where I can also be weak sometimes, so that I can then be strong for my child again. And my child is slowly realising again that I am able to help myself.
I find it very hard to leave him alone. I still worry that something might happen to him. But then I tell myself that he is safe. He should be allowed to play with other children and do all the things that children like to do. The regular meetings at HoneyHeroes! help me to have greater trust in my child and also in myself.’
